Description
<p dir="ltr">This course is designed to enhance teachers’ professional practice and pedagogical skills, equipping teachers with the latest research-based strategies to effectively teach and engage adolescent learners in mathematics. By the end of this course, teachers will gain a deeper understanding of the 2020 Mathematics curriculum and how to effectively implement it. They will be equipped with a toolkit of strategies to support student learning, enhance engagement, and build a positive and productive mathematics learning environment. Most importantly, teachers will increase their confidence as a mathematics educator, ready to inspire and lead their students toward mathematical proficiency and </p> <p dir="ltr">This course will be presented in 4 hour sessions in a blended format, with 12 face-to-face sessions and additional online tasks that will require approximately 3-4 dedicated working hours to complete. For the online components, we will be using the D2L Brightspace Learning Platform. Educators will participate in interactive learning activities with opportunities for professional dialogue based on current research and practice.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Candidates will be assessed based on mandatory attendance and active participation (99 hours) during face-to-face sessions. </strong> It is essential that educators reflect on their practice and seek continuous improvement to effectively meet the diverse needs of their students. At the end of each class, participants will be required to submit a reflection on their learning throughout the course. Reflections will allow participants to consider their knowledge in light of any new learning and unlearning that they experienced and the implications for their practice.</p> <p dir="ltr">Successful completion of the course will require participants to demonstrate learning in all areas with a focus on curriculum knowledge, pedagogical strategies and the learning environment.</p> <p dir="ltr"> Participants who are absent for a learning session will be required to complete a make-up assignment in lieu of the hours missed. Candidates will also complete two assignments (7 hours) and an independent study (25 hours). Learning Goals and Success Criteria are provided for each assignment and evaluation will be graded based on: “meets expectations” or “does not meet expectations” or “incomplete.”</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Scheduled Weekly Meeting Details:</strong></p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Location: DDSB Education Centre (400 Taunton Road E, Whitby)</strong></p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Room Number: C-Lab</strong></p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Day/Time: Thursdays (beginning February 13) - 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm</strong></p> <p>Links for virtual sessions will be shared with participants via the course instructor. Access to the virtual classroom space will not be available until February 10, 2025.</p>
