Description
<p>Teaching English Language Learners, Part II, is designed for educators seeking to deepen their understanding and skills in supporting Multilingual Language Learners (MLLs) in diverse classroom settings.</p> <p>Participants will explore theories and pedagogies related to language acquisition, culturally responsive teaching, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and anti-oppressive practices. Through a combination of theoretical frameworks and practical applications, candidates will learn how to create inclusive, equitable, and safe learning environments that respect and celebrate diversity.</p> <p>The course will emphasize collaboration with families, community partners, and school staff to effectively support MLLs’ academic, social, and emotional needs. Ultimately, educators will be equipped to enhance their professional practice, facilitating meaningful learning experiences that foster the success of all learners.</p> <p>This HYBRID course (online with scheduled, synchronous sessions) will use the Brightspace / D2L Management System as our virtual classroom platform. Google meet links will be sent separately to participants for all guest speakers and any other virtual sessions throughout the course. Per the OCT regulations, participants should expect to dedicate approximately 125 hours of working time towards completing this course. </p> <p dir="ltr">It is expected that all participants will attend the synchronous sessions on the following dates:</p> <p dir=""><strong id="docs-internal-guid-84cf6ad7-7fff-e420-d399-1472ab50681f">Tuesday, February 18, 2025 - 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm<br>Tuesday, March 18, 2025 - 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm<br>Tuesday, April 29, 2025 - 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm<br></strong></p> <p>Links for the virtual sessions will be shared with participants via the course instructor. Access to the virtual classroom space will not be available until February 10, 2025.</p> <p dir="">This is a Part 2 AQ course, and as such, applicants must meet Ontario College of Teachers’ (OCT) criteria of successfully completing at least 1 year (minimum 194 days) of teaching experience – to be confirmed by HR/Superintendent of the applicant’s respective employer. Access to this form will be made available to you by way of email once your completed registration form has been received. Please note, you will be required to make your payment in full at the time of registration. Please familiarize yourself with our refund policy prior to registration. It is the responsibility of the applicant to submit the completed and signed form to finalize your registration in this course.</p> <p dir=""><strong>DDSB Applicants</strong>: please submit the form (completed with your own personal information) to employee.records@ddsb.ca Your teaching days will be verified by HR and signed by a Superintendent.
