Course Name: Reading, Part 1
Part: 1
Description: Reading, Part 1 is intended to enhance professional practice, and extend knowledge and skills of participants. The course will support educators in developing a comprehensive literacy program, improving student achievement.   We will work together to ensure students achieve their full potential as fluent readers, who comprehend what they read, communicate their knowledge and skills, and have a joy for reading.  Participants will develop an understanding of how the brain learns to read, a repertoire of practical strategies for foundational skills, comprehension and assessment strategies. This course will be presented in 4 hour sessions in a blended format, with 12 face-to-face sessions.  All other course work requirements will be completed via the D2L Brightspace virtual classroom learning space.  Educators will participate in interactive learning activities with opportunities for professional dialogue based on current research and practice. Scheduled Meeting Details: Location: DDSB Education Centre (400 Taunton Road E, Whitby) Room Number: C-Lab Day/Time: Wednesday (beginning February 12) - 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm Access to the D2L/Brightspace virtual classroom space will be shared with all participants by the AQ department prior to the start of the course.
